Suzy Working For You

As City Controller, I will dedicate myself to:

1. Getting a handle on crime by making sure funds are budgeted for more police officers. Our crime rate still far exceeds New York City’s crime and the national average. Imagine what a difference more officers could make.

2. Ensuring that there is enough money to enforce gang laws and that those funds are distributed and used properly.

3. Stopping wasteful spending.

4. Securing safer neighborhoods and improving street services. Enforce the same treatment for all neighborhoods. For example, if the streets get paved at Hollywood and Highland for the comfort of tourists, they should be paved in all of LA for the comfort of the residents.

5. Making sure that money is properly allocated and used. LA has plenty of money, it’s just not being properly allocated. It’s going to everyone but the people who are paying the taxes. That will not happen with Kathleen Suzy Evans as Controller.

6. Lowering business taxes to attract businesses. More businesses = more quality jobs and more choices for the people who live here.

7. Making our city more beautiful - not more crowded.

8. Creating an anti-graffiti environment. I won’t just cover up graffiti. I’ll get to the source element.

9. Reducing your tax burden.

In addition, I will conduct the following audits:

1. An audit of all Section 8 subsidies to ensure only qualified people are receiving aid and that we are paying only market rates for rental housing, not inflated rents for politically connected landlords.

2. An audit of all non-profit groups that receive funds from the city or use of the city's property, to determine exactly how they are spending our money and using our property. Such an audit may have prevented Big Weasel from using our $1.5 million to arm his gang.

3. An audit to determine, by zip code or neighborhood our council district, how the $530 million per year spent by the Community Redevelopment Agency is spent. Redevelopment funds should benefit the entire city -- including the Valley and San Pedro -- not just the areas downtown by projects built by politically connected developers.

4. An audit to determine whether city contracts are awarded based on competitive bidding or instead based on family, political or business connections.

5. An audit of ALL leases or sales of City-owned real estate, plus all those $1 per year leases to those so-called non-profits.

I have served as a controller for corporations and non-profits, manufacturers and service companies. I have the depth and breadth of experience we need at City Hall.
